A Radically Simple, Life-Saving Innovation

Map My Mole delivers a consultant-led mole checking service via smartphone and pharmacy — putting trusted skin assessments back into the hands of patients and their communities.

• Patients receive a dermoscopic lens and use our app to capture clear images of skin lesions.

• Images are reviewed by UK-based consultant dermatologists, with results typically returned in under 48 hours.

• For those without smartphones or confidence, we provide community-based access via pharmacies and mobile healthcare assistants.

Pilot Results: Proving the Potential

Between March and June 2024, Map My Mole was piloted across three GP sites in Devon and Cornwall. The impact was immediate:

• 1,126 cases reviewed

• 989 GP appointments saved — freeing up 14,835 minutes of GP time

• 64% reduction in two-week-wait referrals

• 216 secondary care referrals avoided

• Average time from submission to result: 1 day, 23 hours

• 73% of patients were aged 55+

• 62% of images were captured independently at home

These results show a scalable, equitable, and clinically safe model for early intervention - one that benefits GPs, patients, and the wider NHS.

Skin cancer is one of the UK’s fastest-growing cancer types. GPs are overwhelmed, waiting lists are long, and many referrals don’t result in a diagnosis.
